We exist because we want to make shipping simple.

International trade is huge barrier for small and medium sized companies to grow and to compete with the larger multinationals. The dominant players in logistics have grown into behemoths with up to 100,000 employees. These companies strive for efficiencies, scale in operations and standardisation. For them, it is generally much more interesting to get big volumes from big customers than to get lower volumes from many different companies. The prioritization of the big players and big volumes in turn hurts the smaller guys.
This is a huge macro-economic problem – and if solved could bring immense positive impact across the globe. This is the kind of problem that is worth getting up for in the morning to solve.
As a company Twill can be described as a ‘corporate startup’. An oxymoron if you ask us.

So what does “corporate startup” really mean? And what are we all about?

Twill is a Damco company, which in turn is fully owned by Maersk. Where Maersk is huge (85000 people, $35 billion in revenues) Damco is big (10000 people, $2.7 billion in revenues) Twill is still very modest in people and in revenues.

Our parent companies are big and well-established players. But who wants to become just like their parents?
That’s right. And we don’t either. That said: in spite of our small size our ambitions are anything but modest. Talking about things like people and revenues, this is what is true for us:
More revenue solves all known problems… we appreciate that but we’re not in it for the money. We’re here to build the technology that makes shipping simple. Company size is sometimes looked at as some measure of success… but we do not want a lot of people in our company. We just want to have the smallest and best team possible.
